Winter Count Gathering 2012

You have always wanted to get a better understanding of Self Reliance in a place where everyone is welcoming or you may be an old timer wanting to get back to roots. Now is your chance to turn off the computer and Blackberry and get back into the wilderness for a week where cooking around the fire is normal and the Blackberry has no place.

Making Fire

The Winter Count is located near Maricopa Wilderness in Arizona and starts on February 12th and lasts until February 18th. It is a desert style gathering set in a  private area that is owned by Abril family, have been active supporters and teachers at both Winter Count and Rabbitstick for many years.

The area has plenty of local flora that ranges from paloverde and ironwood to saguaro an barrel cactus with coyoates, roadrunners, javelina and deer being regular visiters to the site.

Family Fun

If you are a first timer you will be made to feel welcome and part of the Winter Count family that learning from the instructors is fun with lots to take back with you. While at Winter Count it’s not about how will I fill my time it’s about how can I fit what I want to learn in a week. During the week there will be Flint-Knapping, Herbal, fire making, brain tanning, basket making and knife making classes.

In a day and age where we have everything at our finger tips we have some how lost the connection to nature and the art of simply making something  from our hands. There is something primal and rewarding in making something  from a piece of cordage and turning it into a basket or maybe making extra cordage for a trap.

Selling Primitive Tools

If you book your registration before February 1st the week that includes two meals a day and life long friends for $275 -Priceless.
