Based upon Cody's best-selling books, 98.6 Degrees: The Art of Keeping Your Ass Alive and When All Hell Breaks Loose: Stuff You Need To Survive When Disaster Strikes, When Your Kit Hits The Fan offers a comphrehensive look at the anatomy of a personal and group survival kit for wilderness and urban emergencies. As part of the course, you'll bring your own survival kit and spend one night on the school property using only your kit components.
Store-bought survival kits are often wildly off the mark about the risk factors that challenge the unprepared. Learn how to create or improve your own survival kit based upon the biggest threats to life!
Context vs. Content: understanding what (and how) a survival kit is supposeed to accomplish is critical. Learn how to cut through the BS and focus your kit contents on real threats.
Signal mirror options.Thermoregulation: find out about the biggest outdoor killers via physiology, psychology, and the physics of heat loss and gain. Know why you're packing what you're packing in your kit.
Another survival kit.Gross Motor Skills Rule: like it or not, these skills will come to the forefront when your adrenaline flows. Explore what gear gives you the best results when fine and complex motor skills fail due to fear.
Cody's Kit: Cody will give a detailed lecture and demonstration about the wilderness survival kit that he has carried for nearly 30 years.
The all-important knife.Survival Psychology and Physiology: learn effective trip planning, recognizing survival priorities in desert, mountain, and urban landscapes, dealing with fear in yourself and others, and activating the Search and Rescue system.
Survival Kit Gear: learn about different kit options for fire lighting, sheltering, signaling for rescue, cutting edges, cordage and more!
Vehicle Survival Kits: due to his profession, Cody has driven thousands of backcountry miles. Find out what he packs in his vehicle for backcountry adventures.Brainstorming an Urban Survival Kit, (with our without zombies): Define the universal needs of all urban survival scenarios to enhance your kit contents.
Spend the Night with Your Wilderness Survival Kit: talk is cheap. especially when dealing with your safety. You'll be able to practice what you preach by spending one night with your survival kit components on the school property. Cody will give you size parameters for your kit, and the main intention of your night out - incuding terrain details, elevation and approximate weather information - so that you can pack items relevant to the excercise. (No hiking required.)
